The Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (DOT&PF) released the Alaska Marine Highway System (AMHS) 2045 Comprehensive Long-Range Plan in fall 2025. The plan sets a 20-year roadmap to strengthen resiliency, improve reliability, modernize fleet and terminals, stabilize the workforce, and secure financial sustainability. Built through input from communities, Tribal governments, and regional organizations, it reflects broad collaboration and engagement across Alaska. This framework guides investments and ensures AMHS continues to operate as a safe, reliable, and vital transportation link for Alaska’s coastal communities, businesses, and visitors. The plan has four key focus areas: service, workforce, fleet and terminal infrastructure, financial efficiency and sustainability. Each focus area will have its own set of goals, strategies, and performance metrics to support the 2045 vision.
Southeast Conference was proud to assist in the development of the AMHS LRP by helping to engage communities and stakeholders in the process and by providing document feedback. Now, SEC staff will work to help DOT&PF carry out the LRP through other projects such as the High Efficiency Ferry, Tustumena Replacement Vessel, Mainline Replacement vessels, Access the Prince Rupert and others as needed.
